In October 2021, the sales volume of passenger cars in EU decreased for the fourth consecutive month

According to the latest data released by the European Association of automobile manufacturers (ACEA), the EU's new car sales further contracted by 30.3% to 665001 in October 2021, which is the fourth consecutive month of decline this year and the worst sales record in October since its own record. Most EU countries suffered double-digit declines, including the four largest markets: Italy (- 35.7%), Germany (- 34.9%), France (- 30.7%) and Spain (- 20.5%).
In the first 10 months of 2021, new car sales in the EU increased by 2.2% compared with last year, totalling about 8.2 million vehicles. Despite the recent decline in sales due to the continued impact of the chip supply crisis, the significant growth earlier this year helped to keep the cumulative sales positive. Similarly, demand remained positive in three of the EU's four major markets: Italy (+ 12.7%), Spain (+ 5.6%) and France (+ 3.1%). In contrast, Germany's YTD performance is down (- 5.2%) from a year ago.
